Everyone wants to be happy and healthy. When possible, going out and seeking healthful activities is the preferred route. Oftentimes there isn't enough time for this, or pursuing such activities can be a little too difficult for a person to accomplish. This is when self-care through wellness routines can come in handy. With some small adjustments to your routine and at least one change to your lifestyle, you may be able to live healthier longer - developing chronic illness less often or never getting it at all.
A wellness routine could be anything that takes away stress, provides healing, calmness, and balance to an individual's life. Our wellbeing is greatly influenced by the things we do on a regular basis, our diet, the way we think or feel about ourselves and how active we are in our daily lives. The key is starting slow and only committing to the things that work well with your schedule and skills.
SELF-CARE
Self-care is a deliberate move you make to care for yourself, which could be as simple as going to sleep on time every night or seeing a therapist. It is not a luxury, but an essential to take time off and care for only oneself. For me, that’s exactly what I need to ground myself and feel at peace for a day. It includes planning ahead, reducing stress by healthy ways like yoga, time outside for fresh air and exercise. It’s helpful to think of self-care in 3 ways: care for your body, care for your brain, and care for your soul.
Brain-Care
Have you ever wondered what it is like to have a well cared for brain? The answer lies in understanding the mechanics and aspects of neuron communication, which forms brain connectivity. The healthy neuron databases are the foundation of the human psyche and these networks keep our brain well-oiled against aging and diseases.
People who are learning something new for at least 10 hours a week can improve their brain health. The benefits of learning something new are astounding:
- Patterns of synapses (neuronal connections) turn over in a process called “neural exploration”. That process releases chemicals in the same way we feel happy when exploring new places.
- By opening up long-closed neural networks, you're creating new pathways for information to move via, which will almost automatically happen by just thinking about what you're learning and it is directly correlated with memory retention.
- When we learn, new neurons form and create more neuronal circuits which make the process of neural exploration even more fruitful.
Soul-Care
The more connection you have with your community, the more social capital you will get. Besides that, being in a healthy community can also be an act of self-care for your soul.
In a well-rounded and diverse community, people are more willing to help one another. People have high levels of self-esteem, less anxiety, emotional conflicts in their lives, and rates of violence and depression lower. Various levels of poverty do not diminish the importance of social cohesion in improving mental health outcomes.
Find your people and spend time with them.
Body-Care
In order to feel and look good we must treat our bodies well and take good care of them. To do this we need to spend some time meditating, eating well and sleeping sufficiently, drinking enough water, physically exerting ourselves in some ways, improving our posture and showing our bodies more love. Maybe taking some time to appreciate all it does–instead of focusing on its flaws–is the piece of self-care you've been waiting for!

CREATE HEALTHY ROUTINES
Here are some tips on how to motivate yourself to stay on track with your wellness routine. First, you have to find the way that suits you and then make it fun and rewarding. Find someone who wants you back in the game, so they can provide support and help out with some tasks that are challenging for you. Establish monthly goals and keep an eye on them; they will remind you that change is a work in progress.
Remember, the goal of your new practice is wellness. Be gentle with yourself as you try new things. Start small, forgive yourself if you slip and get back on track at your next opportunity.
